Institute of Law for Women being the only rural women college in Punjab, imparting legal education is playing an important role in building better future for the students by serving the society at large in its own unique way. • By marching ahead with its Motto, Vision, Mission, Objectives, Goals and Core values, this institute is excelling in different fields day by day. The institution has a well- defined Motto, Vision, Mission, Value and Objective. All these are made known to the various stakeholders through website and prospectus. • Inspite of being a rural women’s professional institute the students from diverse backgrounds irrespective of region, caste, religion, economic strata and academic performance are taking admission in it.To uplift rural women education the institute motivates the students by admitting them with partial payment and thereby helping them to deposit their fees in installments as per their convenience. The management provides Tuition fee concession to the students whose sister is a student of the institute. • The institution is translating into reality the dreams of our founders by providing a family like atmosphere where prime focus is on the overall development of the students. • The Institution aims at inculcating holistic development of its students so as make them so strong and confident to compete with the outer world. • Glimpse of this aim can be seen in the performance of our students in different competitions such as IAS, PCS, Judicial, CS (Company secretary) exam and many of them are successful legal practitioners in Supreme Court and High Court. • The session is inaugurated by seeking the blessings of the almighty in the college Gurudwara Sahib (Holy temple). All religious days are celebrated in the college and 'Langar' is prepared and served to one and all. BEST PRACTICES AND INSTITUTIONAL DISTINCTIVENESS Practice – 1 Title – Moot Court • Goal – The main objective behind this practice is to inculcate a new means of learning through Moot Court. This sort of practice can make them work on subjects and demand their individual thinking towards preparation of assignment. This will help them when they go for university courses. • The Context – As higher education has become globalized, the students need such practices to move forward towards achieving excellence. • The practice – The faculty of the college helps the students by providing necessary inputs in order to enhance their learning. Moot Court Competitions are organized by the institution every year. Number of students participates in these competitions. Winners of the competitions are awarded certificates, trophies and prizes. The students of the college also participated in Inter College Moot Court Competition-2017 held on dated27th September 2017at PUSSG Regional Center Bajwara, Hoshiarpur. • Evidence of success – It has been observed that this practice had made the students earn a reputation outside the college and has instilled self confidence in them • Problems Encountered - No major problem encountered. • Resource Required – It does not demand any financial involvement. Best Practice 2 Title of the Practice- Professional skills exposure to students Objective – The objective of this best practice is to enhance professional skills of students to improve their employability and organize various visits and competitions to motivate students for higher education and entrepreneurship, so as to empower them with current legal professional needs and job requirements. The Context- Competition is increasing day by day. Though the students are good in academics and many of our students are holding university positions too, but few of them are lacking in presentation and good communication skills. They are needed to be groomed taking into consideration of the present scenario. Hence various committees are formed at the institutional level in which lecturer in charges are actively working to achieve this objective. The Practice- Enhancing out of box thinking of students is noteworthy point of this practice. The efforts taken for the same are mentioned as follows: • Organizing national seminars/ workshops on emerging legal topics for faculty and students. • Students enthusiastically participate/ publish their ideas in National/ International Conferences, Seminars and Journals. • Expert/ Guest Lectures are frequently conducted for students by legal academicians/ Professionals for imparting knowledge of latest trend in law field. • The students are motivated to participate in various moot court competitions/Parliamentary Debates. • Frequent Court Visits are organized to understand professional work culture of the courts and to gain practical exposure. • To upgrade professional skills, various Faculty Development Programmes are conducted which includes interactive sessions by Legal and Professional experts. • For overall development of students, various programs are conducted like various competitions, personality development, court visits etc. Evidence of Success- Many of our students participated in various competitions to enhance their presentation skills.It has been observed that this practice had made the students earn reputation outside the college and they become more confident. Problems Encountered- As our institute is located in rural area, so some of students are from vernacular background and have poor communication skills in English which needs to be improved.
