It is often said that status and position of women in society is the best way to understand a civilization, its progress and its shortcomings. India was no exception to the miserable state of women. Large community of our society was of the view to keep women inside the four walls of the house. It was the time, when some men of exceptional vision and courage took initiative to change the status of women in India.
The Great Personality, the founder of the Sidhwan Girl Education Institution, “Bhai Narain Singh Ji” was one of them, who realized that it was need of time to set the women free from the clutches of illiteracy. Hence, he took the initiative to provide basic educational facilities to the girls and started the program of education at his own residence.
Thereafter, he donated his entire property & formed “Guru Hargobind Ujjagar Hari Trust”, in the memory of his son Late Kaka Ujjagar Singh.
On the same line,”The Sikh Girls School” started in 1909, which was monitored by Mata Ram Kaur (Wife of Bhai Sahib Ji).
Further, enhancement of the trust was made in 1950 by establishment of “Khalsa College for Women” (First rural girls college in the country), by Harparkash Kaur Ji, the daughter of Mata Ram Kaur & Bhai Sahib, who took over reigns of Trust in 1944 after the demise of her parents. As recognition of her achievements in girl education, she was awarded with the title “Padam Shri”.
The Third institution “Guru Hargobind Harparkash College of Education for Women” commenced from 1955.
The Fourth institution “Guru Hargobind Public Senior Secondary School” affiliated to C.B.S.E. was established in the year 1970.
The Fifth institution by the trust is “Guru Hargobind Institute of law for Women” in the year 2006. This is the first women law college in Punjab.
The main purpose of Trust is to cater the need of the most pivotal section of the society, the women folk. Keeping pace with the education & global concept of quality & excellence, the Law institute fraternity tries to put in its best efforts to realize its mission of value-based, job oriented Education.
