Institute of Law for Women being the only rural women college in Punjab, imparting legal education is playing an important role in building better future for the students by serving the society at large in its own unique way. By marching ahead with its Motto, Vision, Mission, Objectives, Goals and Core values, this institute is excelling in different fields day by day. The institution has a well- defined Motto, Vision, Mission, Value and Objective. All these are made known to the various stakeholders through website and prospectus. Inspite of being a rural womens professional institute the students from diverse backgrounds irrespective of region, caste, religion, economic strata and academic performance are taking admission in it.To uplift rural women education the institute motivates the students by admitting them with partial payment and thereby helping them to deposit their fees in installments as per their convenience. The management provides Tuition fee concession to the students whose sister is a student of the institute. The institution is translating into reality the dreams of our founders by providing a family like atmosphere where prime focus is on the overall development of the students. The Institution aims at inculcating holistic development of its students so as make them so strong and confident to compete with the outer world. Glimpse of this aim can be seen in the performance of our students in different competitions such as IAS, PCS, Judicial, CS (Company secretary) exam and many of them are successful legal practitioners in Supreme Court and High Court. The session is inaugurated by seeking the blessings of the almighty in the college Gurudwara Sahib (Holy temple). All religious days are celebrated in the college and 'Langar' is prepared and served to one and all. Thus inculcating the spirit of brotherhood and universalism. Although it is a professional institute even then every year for inculcating competitiveness and overall development of the students we celebrate the following activities along with our sister institutions under the guidance of the S.G.H.G UjagarHari Trust.(Our management) January - Celebration of Gurupurb of Guru Gobind Singh Ji. February - Organization of two days Annual Sports Day. October- Celebration of Founders Day. Students are given cash Prizes/scholarships on the occasion of Founders Day based on 3 categories. o Student of the Year o Academics o Needy and deserving students. (d) October - Bhai Sahib BhaiNarain Singh ji Memorial Seminar on Save Mother Earth. (e) November - Celebration of Gurupurb of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. (f) March - Annual Convocation and Prize distribution. Our institutes mission is to provide legal aid to the needy, equally facilitate students of rural and urban area, empower women educationally, strive for quality legal education and move from theoretical education to clinical legal education. Our focus is to create Lawyers who will be professionally competent, technically sound and socially relevant and will not enter the Bar and the Branch but also be equipped with latest skill to meet the challenges of the modern worldand address the imperatives of the new millennium and uphold the Constitution of India. Our institute is moving ahead to achieve excellence in legal education by maintaining high standards of teaching, character building and in-biding a sense of civic responsibility in students. The institute has highly dedicated qualified staff, Eleven PhDs and ten UGC/NET cleared. The faculty of our institute is recognized and honored by the P.U. Chandigarh to supervise PhD research scholars. It also goes to our credit that several staff member often leave the institute and many times return as a very favorable and warm atmosphere is prevalent in the institute. The Institution aims to teach the new emerging areas in Laws such as Intellectual Property Laws, Cyber Crimes, Information Technology Laws, RTI Laws, Forensic Science Laws, Alternative Dispute Resolution Laws, Legal Methods and many more, by redefining the boundaries of legal education. Our students excel in academics by bagging the top positions in the university examinations. Our students present research papers in various seminars, conferences, workshops and participate in moot court competitions and law fests. Educational tours, Court visits, Jail Visits, VidhaanSabha visits are also organized for the exposer of the students. Despite being a professional Law institute, our students have been participating in Zonal Youth & Heritage Festival and Inter-Zonal Youth & Heritage Festival every year under the Moga - Ferozepur Zone-B group where there are eleven degree colleges and ours is the only professional institute. BEST PRACTICES AND INSTITUTIONAL DISTINCTIVENESS Practice 1 Title Moot Court Goal The main objective behind this practice is to inculcate a new means of learning through Moot Court. This sort of practice can make them work on subjects and demand their individual thinking towards preparation of assignment. This will help them when they go for university courses. The Context As higher education has become globalized, the students need such practices to move forward towards achieving excellence. The practice The faculty of the college helps the students by providing necessary inputs in order to enhance their learning. Moot Court Competitions are organized by the institution every year. Number of students participates in these competitions. Winners of the competitions are awarded certificates, trophies and prizes. The students of the college also participated in Inter College Moot Court Competition-2017 held on dated27th September 2017at PUSSG Regional Center Bajwara, Hoshiarpur. Evidence of success It has been observed that this practice had made the students earn a reputation outside the college and has instilled self confidence in them Problems Encountered - No major problem encountered. Best Practice 2 Title of the Practice- Professional skills exposure to students Objective The objective of this best practice is to enhance professional skills of students to improve their employability and organize various visits and competitions to motivate students for higher education and entrepreneurship, so as to empower them with current legal professional needs and job requirements. The Context- Competition is increasing day by day. Though the students are good in academics and many of our students are holding university positions too, but few of them are lacking in presentation and good communication skills. They are needed to be groomed taking into consideration of the present scenario. Hence various committees are formed at the institutional level in which lecturer in charges are actively working to achieve this objective. The Practice- Enhancing out of box thinking of students is noteworthy point of this practice. The efforts taken for the same are mentioned as follows: Organizing national seminars/ workshops on emerging legal topics for faculty and students. Students enthusiastically participate/ publish their ideas in National/ International Conferences, Seminars and Journals. Expert/ Guest Lectures are frequently conducted for students by legal academicians/ Professionals for imparting knowledge of latest trend in law field. The students are motivated to participate in various moot court competitions/Parliamentary Debates. Frequent Court Visits are organized to understand professional work culture of the courts and to gain practical exposure. To upgrade professional skills, various Faculty Development Programmes are conducted which includes interactive sessions by Legal and Professional experts. For overall development of students, various programs are conducted like various competitions, personality development, court visits etc. Evidence of Success- Many of our students participated in various competitions to enhance their presentation skills.It has been observed that this practice had made the students earn reputation outside the college and they become more confident. Problems Encountered- As our institute is located in rural area, so some of students are from vernacular background and have poor communication skills in English which needs to be improved.
